My first completed art piece in a while, and I'm pretty proud of this. I'd even go so far as to say this is my best work yet. I've been working on it for over a month now, and I'm fairly confident that it's damn close to the official scale of the ship.
The Going Merry is the ship of the Mugiwara Kaizoku-dan, or the Straw Hat Pirate Crew. Captained by Monkey D. Luffy and crewed by swordsman/first mate Roronoa Zoro, navigator Nami, gunner Usopp, cook Sanji, doctor Tony Tony Chopper and archaeologist Nico Robin. I'd go into detail about how and when they obtained the ship but that would likely make my description pages long. Additionally, I will not spoil those who have not seen/read the current storyline in Japan.
I used the One Piece Animation Logbook and screenshots from both movies 4 and 5, as well as a pile of episodes to gather reference material. Unfortunately, this was pretty hard as Toei seem to make minor changes in details in almost every scene, such as the position/presence of ropes, height and colour of objects, etc. When something was wildly different, I just gave it my best guess.
I can't think of much else to say, except this took a hell of a long time to complete. I am currently working on constructing the interior rooms of the ship, and I have completed variations showing both the Flying Model and the current patchworked model as seen in recent times. Eventually these will all be thrown into a flash file allowing you to rotate the ship and look at the rooms inside, spruced up with little animations and background music. Said flash file will then be handed over to Kaizoku Fansubs to distribute/link to at will, as their "fan's guide to the Going Merry".
I'd love to hear any and all comments!
EDIT - fixed a small collision error with the anchor, where the corner went through the ship's railing. I had noticed it myself but when a few others pointed it out I decided it was time to fix it.
EDIT 2 - after much consideration, I've updated the swirly bannister parts at the side of the hull to the more detailed version I'm using in my "closeup" models for the 3D tour program. The old ones were blocky and just didn't look neat enough. I also removed the splashy wave thing around where it sits in the water, I just didn't like it. This one looks cleaner, no?
Amazing work, man. You really pulled out all the stops to this one. This is probably one of my more favorite pieces from you. Awesome job! You're definitely getting a fave.
You've gotta be FREAKEN kiddin me!!? ;____; What program did you use because this is just pure AWESOME!!! Everything has SOO much detail in it... I mean seriously.. I could see myself drawing up the group and adding them into this pic, even though they would be 2-Dimentional and all.. wow... o____o
You're very good at 3D stuff. I tried it once and sucked horribly...except for the step-by-step tutorial that made everything so simple that a kindergartener would be able to make the tutorial objects. -_-;
^_^ Anyway, I've been wanting a 3D representation (including rooms, and such) forever! I mean, like, really~! ^^
its up its up its up!!!! i told you it will turn out well didn't i you are absolutely awesome you have to show me how to use lightwave and i guess i can teach you more on flash mx! hehe really well done mate really well done!!
